Currently bakuchiol is getting really popular! It is considered as a natural alternative, vegan and less irritating as retinol. It is a plant extract that offers the same benefits as retinol. It is actually derived from the plant called psoralea corylifolia, which is also known as the babchi plant.
It actually has a long history of being used in medicine. It is used for soothing rashes, relieving the redness on your skin and also healing your cuts. As it is much like retinol, bakuchiol can help reduce your hyperpigmentation, balance your textural issues and even improve your skin elasticity. It stimulates your collagen production and therefore this will lead to a more youthful appearance.
One of the best advantage of using bakuchiol instead of retinol is that it is not affected by the sun. This means that you can use this product in the daytime and the nighttime. Not only that, it contains antioxidant properties and most dermatologists believe that it is possible for you to use it while you are pregnant!
One of my favourite is Herbivore’s Botanicals Bakuchiol Serum. Like every Herbivore product, it is beautifully presented. Not only does it contain Babchi extract, it also has polyhydroxy acid, tremella mushrooms and blueberry stem cells. The serum is water based and slightly jelly like, it spreads really smoothly over your skin and dries clear. The colour of the serum is a nice tinted purple from the blend of extracts. Tremella mushrooms are suppose to be like hyaluronic acid, in which it helps hydrate your skin by allowing your skin to hold moisture. Blueberry is a fruit that is packed in antioxidants that will be able to help protect your skin from environmental damage.
Biossance’s Squalane + Phyto-Retinol Serum has been pretty popular. It’s a lightweight serum that features bakuchiol as their main ingredient. Not only that, they also include niacinamide, another ingredient that is known to help even out your skin tone. Unlike the others, Biossance’s serum includes squalane, this means that the product might feel a little oily for you to touch. However, squalene is lightweight and noncomedogenic, which basically means it won’t clog your pores like some oils do.
Acure’s Radically Rejuvenating Dual Phase Bakuchiol Serum is packed with bakuchiol and also turmeric in jojoba oil. This makes the serum be moisturising and also provide antioxidant benefits. It’s probably one of the cheapest serum to get with bakuchiol. Therefore, I would suggest that this one is probably the most budget friendly out of the others.
Even Ole Hendriksen is on the bakuchiol hype train! They came out with their Goodnight Glow Retin-ALT Sleeping Creme for you to add bakuchiol to your nighttime routine. Instead of an oil or water base, this is a cream based product that helps exfoliate your skin during night to allow for a more fresher looking skin. This product has Edelweiss stem cell to help improve your skin elasticity and firm it up. If you want something stronger, Ole Hendriksen also has a serum version of this product. But I personally feel like this product is enough for your basic needs.
