Glowing dewy skin has been really popular nowadays. The whole dewy skin routine has been made popular by the Korean beauty culture and it has now been recognised worldwide. It is undoubtedly one of the most popular skin trend that has emerged in the last few years. Here is how you can achieve dewy skin with drugstore products.
What is Dewy Skin?
Dewy skin is basically a skin that looks fresh, hydrated and a glow that pops you out. It refers to your skin being youthful, smooth and springy. Dewy does not mean your face is oily. Instead, imagine it as your face after a nice exfoliation and skincare routine. Ideally, dewy skin will help decrease the signs of wrinkles, pores and lines. All of those associated with signs of aging.
Therefore a dewy skin is often considered to make you look youthful by giving you a fresher and more glowing skin.
How to Get Dewy Skin?
I believe getting dewy skin is more than just using the right skincare products. To truly get a dewy skin that glows, it requires you to eat healthy too. You should nourish your body as what you eat and put inside your body matters.
Some foods that we eat can help promote health skin and even slow signs of aging. You should aim to eat foods that are high in antioxidants, healthy fats and lean sources of protein. Also, make sure you get adequate amount of sleep.
The way to get dewy skin differs from people to people. Here is one way of achieving dewy skin:
Cleansing and Exfoliating
You should cleanse your skin at least one a day using a gentle cleanser and warm water. Twice a week, you might want to consider exfoliating your face to get rid of the dead sin cells that build up on your skin surface everyday.
The cleanser is formulated with soy extract and can help remove the makeup, dirt and oil that is left on your skin. Because it is gentle, it is great for everyday use and will not dry your face out.
This is a great exfoliant that is lightweight and gel-cream based. The exfoliant includes hyaluronic acid, this helps increase your skin’s hydration while also effectively removing impurities on your skin.
Use a hydrating toner to help prep your skin to absorb the skincare products you will put on next.
This is a gentle toner that is alcohol free, this means that it would not strip off or dry your skin. It leaves your skin feeling refreshed without the tightness and stinging from the alcohol. It will help remove any last trace of grime and impurities that are stuck to your pore without being too strong (because of the lack of alcohol).
In addition, the toner will help restore the pH levels on your skin and smooth and improve your skin tone. The alcohol-free toner is especially great for those who have oily faces as they can help keep your oils in check.
If you are willing to splurge a little more, I would highly recommend the Pyunkang Yul Facial Essence Toner. This is a pretty good hydrating toner that is often used in many Korean skincare routines. Think of it as the OG of toners for dewy skin.
The key ingredient in the Pyukang Yul Toner is 91.3% milk vetch root extract. This is a very powerful antioxidant that is inflammatory and helps nourish your skin. In addition, because it is an antioxidant, it can also help protect your skin from free radicals that damage it.
Sheet Mask and Serum
Sheet masks are very popular in Korea. A lot of people actually use one sheet mask a day and they swear that it works. I do believe that using a sheet mask has benefits for your face, it really helps achieve a moisturized dewy look when I use it regularly. However, this is not a required step, so feel free to skip this if you want.
This is pretty good for a drugstore face mask. It contains hyaluronic acid and therefore it will be really helpful in making your skin hydrated and supple. For those of you who are sensing a little dryness in their face, I would really recommend this for them.
Serums are pretty essential to help give your skin a dewy feel and look. You should consider using serums that have retinol (at night), vitamin C and anything with hyaluronic acid.
If you have a bit of money to splurge then the face masks from The Face Shop is pretty good. They have a variety of different ingredients for their mask, which is perfect for you to pick and choose which one is your favorite. They include many different specialised ingredients such as honey, pomegranate, lemon, rice, green tea etc. I find that a bit of variety is a nice way to spice it up and sometimes it makes a boring routine better.
This is a serum that contains both hyaluronic acid, retinol and vitamin C. It is a lightweight gel serum that does not require a lot and spreads pretty well. Vitamin C helps provide a boost of antioxidants on your face to help prevent signs of aging and protect you from free radicals. The ingredient retinol is great for night time use, it is a form of vitamin A that helps your skin regenerate and improve your wrinkles and other signs of aging.
I found this drugstore cream to be very versatile. Both retinol and vitamin C are key ingredients for anti-aging skincare products. The combination of anti-aging and moisturizer is really great for a dewy skin. This is because it is key for your skin to look plump and youthful.
In the end of your skincare routine, you should always seal everything in with a moisturizer. A good moisturizer will act as like a seal and help protect your skin and keep all the nutrients and hydration firmly packed in.
For moisturizers, I would always pick something with hyaluronic acid. This is an ingredient that has the ability to attract moisture from outside your skin and then hold up to 1000 times its weight. This means that it will definitely help hydrate you to help keep your skin looking healthy and dewy.
So not only is this a moisturiser with hyaluronic acid, it also includes soy to help brighten and tone your skin. I found it pretty good as it is lightweight in a gel solution. At the end of the routine, I would much rather put something that is more lightweight than heavy as I have already slathered onto my face a lot of other products.
Personally, even I believe the whole routine seems a little too much. Use this as a guide, try it out and figure out what works and what does not work for you. I do not think it is necessary to follow literally everything on the routine.
Don’t forget, achieving the healthy, dewy face is much more than just cleaning your face and putting skincare products on. Your lifestyle choices matter, this includes stuff such as getting enough sleep and eating healthier. If such a long routine stresses you out, just take it and simplify it to match your needs.
