Sunscreen is something that you should always have on when you go out during the day. As summer is coming soon, it is very important that you use sunscreen to help protect yourself from the harmful UV rays. Here are a few sunscreens that I would suggest you try out this summer to help protect yourself.
Apart from protecting you from skin cancer, sunscreen is a key agent in helping your skin stay young and prevent premature aging. In fact, the leading cause of premature skin aging is sun exposure. When the sun rays hit your skin, they damage the elastic fibres that keep your skin tight. This in turn allows for wrinkles and fine lines to develop. The sun is also responsible for your skin developing dark spots or age spots.
While it may be very hard to undo the wrinkles and skin aging, we can avoid extensive damage by putting on sunscreen. You should always wear sunscreen during the day and aim for getting a sunscreen with a sun protection factor (SPF) of 30 or higher. It has been clinically proven that an 30 SPF is a sufficient amount to protect you from the effects of sunlight.
When using sunscreen, make sure you use a decent amount of it. You should aim for at least a dime size amount of sunscreen for your face. In addition, if you use a chemical sunscreen, do not forget that it takes around 20 minutes for it to start working. Whereas a physical sunscreen will work right away.
Sunscreen will also need to be reapplied. Ideally, you would reapply sunscreen every two hours. If you are going to be swimming or sweating a lot, you might consider applying it sooner as the sunscreen will be rubbed off.
Neutrogena Ultra Sheer Dry-Touch Sunscreen
This is a bestselling sunscreen that I recommend all the time. It is a broad spectrum chemical sunscreen that is quite lightweight and oil free. It applies smoothly and dries down in a matte texture without making a white cast. I can even apply make up afterwards on my face without having any issues.
It is relatively cheap and therefore it’s a good sunscreen for those who want a good coverage sunscreen without splurging on one. My skin tends to be on the oiler side and therefore it is pretty great that it is oil free. I can apply it on every day without any issues popping up. Once it is applied, it quickly meshes into my skin without white cast, residue or pilling.
Mustela Baby Mineral Sunscreen Lotion

Mustela is one of the leading brands that offer sunscreen for babies. Because it is marketed to babies and children, they take great care in formulating something that is safe for babies. Their formula is a mineral sunscreen, this means that it is a physical sunscreen. The product is not required to absorb into your skin to work, instead it works instantly and is like a shield (chemical sunscreen requires 20 minutes to absorb into your skin to be effective).
I would really suggest this for those of you who have sensitive skin as the ingredients are very safe. Their product is fragrance free and paraben free. It is easy to apply and require minimal effort. My only issue with their product is that it leaves a little bit of a white cast as it is a physical sunscreen and not chemical.
La Roche-Posay Anthelios Lotion Sunscreen
This is another drugstore find that I would recommend. It is a broad-spectrum sunscreen that fragrance free and non-comedogenic. It is available for all skin types (great for sensitive skin). Once it is applied on your face or body, it is absorbed quickly and leaves a matte finish.
The lotion is not greasy when applied, but you do have to rub it down onto your face to fully spread it out. For those of you who have darker skin types, it might leave tiny residue of white spots as it might leave a white cast on some people.
If you suffer from acne or eczema, this sunscreen might work and not irritate your skin. As this is a non-comedogenic sunscreen, it has be specifically formulated to not block or clog your pores. This means that if you have acne, blackheads or even prone to clogged pores, using this might help reduce the amount of breakouts you might get. As always, you should consult a doctor or dermatologist if you are unsure about anything.
Laneige Hydro UV Defense Sunscreen

This is a good lightweight sunscreen that can also hydrate and soothe your skin. It works on most skin types, but for those of you who have dry skin, this product will be great for you. It’s a lightweight cream that contains hydro ionised mineral water that provides a high dose of moisture to help keep your skin hydrated and retain the moisture.
The sunscreen is very lightweight and easy to blend onto your face. I noticed that the sunscreen does not pill on your face and works well with makeup. In addition, it did not leave a white cast and does not sting your eyes. It has a mild fresh scent, nothing too strong.
Shiseido Clear Sunscreen Stick

This is a clear stick sunscreen that goes 100% invisible when applied on your face. As it is a stick sunscreen, it goes on pretty well on your face and isn’t messy at all. It feels a little like colouring your face. All it takes is a little swipe and it glides on really well. It is in a nice compact tube and therefore it makes it easy to bring it out without worrying about leaks.
What I love best about this product is that it goes really good with makeup. The sunscreen might have a little waxy feel when applied onto your face. But it works well for those of you who put concealer. In addition, since you should reapply sunscreen at least every 2 hours, this sunscreen goes well on top of makeup too. Ideally, you would apply the sunscreen on the base of your face, but if you are in a rush, this stick sunscreen does not mess with makeup.
If you’re going to Hawaii, this product is ocean-friendly as it does not have oxybenzone and octinoxate. The Shiseido sunscreen stick complies with the Hawaii regulations.
