Review of Alpyn Beauty’s Triple Vitamin C Brightening Bounce Cream

First of all, I have never heard of Alpyn Beauty before. I found their Triple Vitamin C Brightening Bounce Cream in Sephora and decided to try it out. I’ll admit, I got lured in by the pretty pink jar and that it says wildcrafted actives. Reminds me back to the days where I was into tarot cards (which I still dabble with) and getting in-tune with nature.

Alpyn Beauty states that they are the first and only skincare line to be clean and sustainable harvest wildcrafted ingredients straight from the mountains in Wyoming. I found the word wildcrafted pretty cool but also slightly gimmicky. It gave me the vibes of sage, crystals and candles. In reality, wildcrafting is basically a practice of harvesting plants in the wild nature while respecting the plant so that the plant is left alive and healthy after being plucked carefully.

This vitamin C brightening cream contains 3 ingredients that are known to contain vitamin C and be beneficial to your skin. From what I can see, they contain ascorbic acid, magnesium ascorbateyl phosphate and ascorbyl glucoside. These three are typical products used in skincare to provide the vitamin C into your skin. Ascorbic acid is one of the most popular forms of vitamin C and is often seen as more potent than magnesium ascorbateyl phosphate. It’s cool that they have 3 types of vitamin C, but I feel like it is a bit redundant to have 3 of basically the exact same type of vitamin C. One issue I have with this is that these 3 forms of vitamin C is easily accessed and has no connection to wildcrafting in Wyoming. For me, it felt like they took forms of vitamin C and mixed it with 20 different ingredients to make it smell nice, look nice and a sprinkle of wildcrafting to match with their story.

In addition to having vitamin C they also added wild chokecherry. Chokecherry is packed with anioxidants and caffeic acid and therefore has the ability to enhance your skin elasticity. It is basically an emollient that helps your retain moisture on your skin. This vitamin C product also contains a lot of other flower extracts and oils. The product feels nice and all on your skin, but I am concerned about all the oils that are listed in their ingredients. I do not think it is necessary to include so many oils such as sunflower seed oil, hydrogenated olive oil, sesame seed oil, jojoba oil, avocado oil, grape see oil, rosehip oil…. I’m only halfway on their ingredients list. There is just way too much! Perhaps, this product might resound with those who just likes to slather a cream on their face and call it a day, but it is certainly not for me. I do not think there is a reason to justify 30+ different ingredients in a skincare product.

The cream is cruelty free and 100% vegan. It definitely smells amazing (might have to do with the orange peel extract, lavender oil, rosemary leaf extract or the 30 other ingredients). It feels nicely jelly and does not require a lot of cream for your coverage. My one concern is that there is so much different types of oil in this. As someone with a slightly more oily face, I would be concerned about my pores and perhaps there might be too much in it. Despite the positives of this cream, I still cannot get over the fact that there is just so many ingredients, perhaps it could be justified, but I don’t think it is necessary.

Don’t forget, less is actually more. When you are putting something on your body, you should always do your research, look deeply into the ingredients and wonder if you actually need a product with that many different ingredients. Personally, I would much rather use a skincare product with 10 or less ingredients. The more ingredients a product has, the higher chance you are likely to have irritations or be allergic to an ingredient or even just an interaction of the ingredients. Furthermore, with more ingredients in the product, there is a chance that the active ingredients become not as bioactive. This means that those active ingredients you pay a premium for, might not even work as well as they should. The filler ingredients might reduce the effect of the main ingredient you are buying the product for.

Instead of getting an all in one cream, you might consider getting a product with just vitamin C such as retinol or ascorbic acid. In this day and age, there are many different brands that have products with just vitamin C and a few ingredients. With less ingredients, you will know what exactly you are putting on your face. Streamline your skincare regimen, there is no need for all the complication and fuss. And always, don’t forget to put your sunscreen!
