The Ordinary’s Alpha Lipoic Acid 5%

I liked the Ordinary’s Alpha Lipoic Acid 5%. I found the product to feel really good on my skin. The best thing about it is that there are literally only 2 ingredients in the product! This drastically reduces the cost of the product to $6.80CAD! Also, it’s great how there’s fewer ingredients, there’s no additional products or byproducts in this. Just the standard what you paid for!

The product is water and oil-free, however, when it is first applied, it will feel a bit gritty and oily. Eventually, my face started tingling within 10/20 seconds of applying. Then the oily feeling subsided. Alpha Lipoic Acid is less stable when in contact with formulas with water, therefore make sure you don’t have any water-based formulas on your skin beforehand. Because of the high concentration of Alpha Lipoic Acid (5%), it is ideal to use this for a maximum of 2-3 times a week at night.

In theory, Alpha Lipoic Acid is a super powerful anti-ageing inflammatory antioxidant. However, there is still not enough scientific evidence to prove that it is truly beneficial to the skin. Testing has been done, but there is not enough results to be conclusive about the benefits of it.

Alpha Lipoid Acid is found naturally in the mitochondria part in our cells and also in the enzyme system for energy production. When ingested, it’s known for being both fat and water soluble. It’s known for being around 400x stronger than Vitamin E and C. By applying it topically, it provides your skin with more energy to repair it.

Alpha Lipoid Acid helps us fight and improve our abilities to fight the damage our skin acquires from the environment. Because of its powerful antioxidant abilities, it’s an effective free radical fighter and improves other antioxidants that are already in the body. It is believed that it can help fade dark spots and reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. This is done through their ability to boost the skin’s ability to exfoliate and regenerate itself.

I won’t say this was a miracle worker for me, but I do believe that it seemed to have benefited my skin. The jury is out, there is still not enough scientific evidence to possibly say that it is beneficial or not.
