What Does Salicylic Acid Do for Acne?

There are literally two product ingredients that are great for getting rid of acne. Salicylic acid is one of them. Often when you see a pimple, it’s the first thing you grab and it gets rid of your breakouts.

Salicylic acid is a beta hydroxy acid (BHA). Beta hydroxy acid is a form of exfoliant that has drastic effect on your skin. It helps remove the bonds holding the dead skin on the surface. BHA then breaks the bond and helps your skin naturally shed the dead skin and create a smoother and younger skin.

BHA is oil soluble and therefore it is great on normal to oily skin. It works on the surface and the inside of your pores. It clears out the excess oils, smoothes your bumps and even reduces pore size. Those with sensitive skin should also take note that BHA helps reduce redness and is gentle enough for even those with rosacea.

Salicylic acid works by penetrating your skin and then dissolves some of the sticky glue that holds your skin cells together. This act is seen as exfoliating your skin and unclogging pores. In addition, salicylic acid also contains lipophilic, this makes the salicylic acid go deep in your oily skin and pores. It also helps reduce sebum secretion and therefore reduce acne.
